MORASHA - JEWISH PRIMARY SCHOOL

General update - June 2008

It has been a while since our last update and - as you will see - there is a lot to tell you about! Having gone through our plans last Wednesday evening with the parents who have signed up for 2008 or 2009 entry, we are now in a position to let you know everything we have been doing to get the school ready for opening this September.

The past two months has been a key period for us, and we have been extremely busy in ensuring that all logistical aspects of the school are thought about and planned. Amongst other things, we have:

  • Recruited our first two teachers to guide the school forward
  • Processed applications for admissions for both 2008 and 2009 entry
  • Started renovation work on the school's temporary premises
  • Submitted a formal application to the Department for Children, Schools and Families - this contained over 200 policies
  • Chosen a school uniform, which will be ready to order in the next few weeks
  • Worked out the timetables - including our term dates for 2008-09 and the structure of the school day (including planning in terms of how the drop-off and pick-up will work)
  • Drawn up a list of equipment and facilities needed for the opening of the school
  • Started our fundraising activities in earnest - more of which below

More detail about many of these items can already be found within this website. We will also be posting a list of FAQs on the website shortly and will aim to keep this updated as we receive questions from parents.

Key next steps - and what we need from you!

At this point in time, we have built up considerable momentum and are working hard towards the big opening date of 8 September. Some of our key tasks for the next two months include:

  • a big fundraising drive to cover both the capital outlay and the initial operating costs. We are planning one event in mid-July - so please look out for details shortly.
  • the development of structured parent participation. This will consist of two elements in the short-term. First, there will be one parent-governor joining the governing body: this will initially be a September 08 parent who has been elected by his or her peers to serve for one year. Second, we will be setting up a Parents-Teachers Association (PTA). More details of both and how to apply will be posted on the website in the next week or so.
  • curriculum development: working closely with our two teachers to ensure that we have agreed aims for the year and a strategy to achieve them.
  • planning the opening date itself.

As ever, we welcome your comments and support, and we look forward to updating you again in a couple of months time, at which stage we will be just one month from opening.

Our best wishes,

Morasha JPS Governors.
